GET W.I.T.H. IT
Get W.I.T.H. (Walking In The Halls) is on now! It’s a walking program that provides a safe, warm, well-lit walking- instead of trying to brave the ice and snow outside. It’s held every Tuesday and Thursday from 5-7pm at the Rideau District High School. It’s open to everyone who’d like a safe walking environment. Please note that if the buses are cancelled, the program is also cancelled for that day.

SPRING AT THE CITY’S GREENHOUSE
Kingstonians anxious for spring can get a taste of it at the City’s greenhouse (111 Norman Rogers Drive – across from Centennial Public School). It will be open to the public from 2-4pm on February 26th, March 4th and 11th.
Spring bulbs and tropical plants are on display, including daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths. Greenhouse staff will be on hand to answer questions.

FREEDOM TO READ WEEK
The Kingston Frontenac Public Library and Queen’s University Libraries are working together to celebrate Freedom to Read Week, February 26th – March 3rd. Freedom to Read Week celebrates the right of each individual to make their own reading choices, an essential freedom in our democratic society.
Four public readings will be held throughout the week. Of special interest are the Harry Potter event on campus and the public library’s Freedom to Read-a-thon that features local politicians, authors and other book lovers reading from materials targeted by censors in Canada and the US.

TEEN STRESS & DISTRESS
A question & answer session on Teen Stress and Distress for parents who want to learn how to help teens cope with stress and distress is being held on February 29th at 7pm at Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School(1085 Woodbine Road). There’s a presentation by Dr. Mike Condra, Department of Psychology, Queen’s University, who will review the “lived experience” of young people as a way to understand the types of stresses that teenagers are likely to experience. Everyone is welcome to join the St. Patrick’s Parade on Saturday, March 10th, just assemble at 12:30pm at Skeleton (McBurney) Park (Ordnance and Clergy Streets). There is a brief wreath laying commemoration and interdenominational service at 1pm at the Celtic cross prior to the parade leaving. The parade route is Clergy to Princess to City Hall where a letter will be given to Mayor Mark Gerretsen. Then there is a ceili/Celtic jam session in Tir Na Nog.

Kingston Gets Active is a not-for-profit group of community organizations that work together to promote physical activity in Kingston.
All grade 5 and 9 students from all local schools have free access to participating facilities at designated times. All they need is their activity pass card (grade 5) or student card (grade 9), which are provided by the school board and registered through Kingston Gets Active. This is a really great opportunity to stay active and have fun!
